Weekly Updates| Self-Worth

Good morning!

Here we are again with this week’s topic that many of us tend to forget all about-SELF-WORTH. Self-worth is an issue we all struggle with at times. We tend to struggle because if we can be honest with ourselves for a second most of us are such people pleasers that we suppress our self-worth. 

A general definition self-worth is knowing the value of who YOU as a person. We tend to suppress our values and worthiness pretty similar to cooking our favorite recipe but we forget about the most important ingredient. Funny thing is we’ve all either attempted to suppress our self-worth to please others or forgot to add the MAIN ingredient to our favorite recipe. 

Need support? Here’s one of our favorite scriptures that can help comfort you when we struggle with self-worth,self-esteem or anything related to WHO WE ARE AND WHO WE CAN BECOME. 

Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” -Luke 12:7

When we think of our value we must think of how God sees us and not how people see us. Also remembering to think of happy, lovely, positive things, not focusing on the bad or negative. In doing so renews our mind and our soul and gives us that needed peace. 

Here’s another scripture to help you along the way:

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8-9 NIV

Sometimes we tend to be trendy and fit in but we forget what we are trying to fit in to. What is more important to you your standards, your dignity or being apart of a social atmosphere that you won’t remember years from now?

NEVER lower your standards just to fit in. You are qualified for a reason and that sometimes means striving to be the best YOU you can be. –LK

MLK|Why We Dream

Happy MLK Day
Today is a day to honor one of the great civil rights leaders Dr Martin Luther King Jr. We not only celebrate our freedom of segregation, but we also celebrate our right to DREAM. Thinking back on it we all possibly could have survived segregation but we would have died from the thought of not being able to dream. 

One of the reasons we attend college is to complete the dream of having a career. Some of us marry and have children for the dream of having that perfect family living in a perfect house on the hill. 

Lupita Nyong’o once said “No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.” 

What would have happened if that little who played with his toy gun wouldn’t have dreamed of being a police officer?  Or that little girl who sung into her brush for hours in the mirror dreaming to become the next star? Today we are thankful for dreams. 

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.- Colin Powell

Today we, Women With Gifts staff, supporters and community celebrate Dr. King because of his dream. The doors he has opened for our futures.  Thank you Dr King for giving us hope and allowing us to dream. 

Dr Martin Luther King was born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. King, a Baptist minister and civil-rights activist, had a seismic impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s. 

Among his many efforts, King headed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Through his activism and inspirational speeches he played a pivotal role in ending the legal segregation of African-American citizens in the United States, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. 

King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several other honors. He was assassinated in April 1968, and continues to be remembered as one of the most influential and inspirational African-American leaders in history.

Missing|Marlya Sheprez Epting

Marlya Sheprez Epting was last seen on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. She was last seen near her home in Rowlett, Texas. 

Marlya Sheprez Epting is an African-American female. She is 16 years old. This teen girl is described as 5’2″ tall to 5’4″ tall. She is also described as 130 to 140 pounds. Her hair is black and she has brown eyes. 

Marlya goes by Cookie or Kae. She was last seen wearing a red hoodie shirt and blue jeans. She also wears a necklace with a “M” on the charm and her full name. She has braids in her hair with green streaks.
