My name is Jennifer Dunlap- Jenni. I am a legally blind mother of two. I have a degenerative eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa, and I was declared legally blind in my teens. I went to college to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in writing with a minor in women’s and gender studies.
From my early teens into my early twenties, I battled with bulimia. I hid my eating disorder from everyone until I decided to speak up after close to a decade. Treatment happened just in time because my body was slowly shutting down. I spent a few years in therapy and in out-patient treatment, but I wasn’t honestly ready to get healthy until I decided that I wanted to become a mother.
There are a lot of reasons that I wanted to get better, and the majority of them centered around helping not just myself and starting a family but wanting to show others that recovery is possible. I had been through trauma like rape, abusive relationships, and a lot of turmoil in my home life growing up. I wanted to show other women that we all deserve to love ourselves and our bodies regardless of size, color, or background..
Becoming a mother really helped me find the balance and happiness I needed to learn to not only accept but love my body and my curves. I decided to start a blog called Housewife Hustle where I would discuss parenting, beauty, style, mental health, disabilities, sex, and body acceptance.
After a year of blogging, I decided to write a self-help type of book. Eat the Damn Muffin has recently been published, and it details my journey with eating disorder recovery, as well as shares advice and tips for others to learn to love their bodies and themselves just as they are.
I want to thank you for this opportunity in general, whether I am featured or not. I grew up surrounded by everything that should have held me down. There were drugs, abuse, and so much negativity. I grew up without a lot of money. I was bullied for my lack of vision, and now, I feel like I have so many platforms to help women see that they can rise up and be the best versions of themselves.
