Recently, we asked female entrepreneurs the following question:

As a woman, if you could share anything about yourself that makes you different from any other woman, what would you share?

Today this question was answered by blogger and teacher Mary, who is the owner of A Million Ways to Learn.

What makes me different from any other woman? That is an interesting question for me, because my entire life I’ve felt like I don’t fit in anywhere, and yet I don’t feel like I stand out. There is a song from the play/movie “Chicago,” called “Mr. Cellophane.” I identify strongly with that song. One of the lyrics states, “Cause you can look right through me, walk right by me, and never know I’m there.”  I have always struggled with what path to take and how to make my mark in life.

I’m not a mom. I suppose that makes me different from many women. I am a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend. I am a teacher. I am a blogger. I am strong in my Catholic faith. It’s interesting…some of these traits make me the same as some women, while different from others. Sometimes it’s all a matter of perspective.

But what is it that sets me apart? What makes me different from any other woman is my ability to accept people for who they are, support them, and help them to believe in themselves and be able to grow. It’s all about making people feel empowered and confident. This is what I’ve done in the classroom every day for 20+ years, and this is what I do now as a blogger.

My blogging goal is to give those who work with students with special needs the tools they need to feel confident and inspired in their jobs. Blogging gives me the opportunity to make a wider impact by creating a productive and inspiring “A Million Ways to Learn” community, and I love it! We all have that something that makes us who we are. And it does set us apart. But all of us working together, using our gifts…we are unstoppable!
