This story really breaks our hearts because no one should ever lose their life to nonsense and especially not while trying to earn a living. Recently Julie Brightwell lost her life just by asking a customer to not smoke. According to news reports Julie was considered to be very kind and sweet. One customer reported that it was just hard to believe how nice she was.
On Friday, a Mississippi man and ex-firefighter (Johnny Mount) allegedly shot and killed a Waffle House employee (Julie Brightwell) after she wouldn’t let him smoke inside the building. A waitress in a Biloxi Waffle House asked Johnny Mount, 45, to snuff out his cig but he refused and instead pulled out a handgun and shot the woman a little after 1 a.m. on Friday. Police arrested Mount at the scene. He had the 9mm pistol concealed beneath his shirt, cops said.
“The individual was still sitting there and they took him into custody,” Biloxi Police Department Sgt. Donnie Dobbs told The Clarion Ledger.
Officials did not immediately release the name of the 52-year-old victim, but Waffle House referred to her as Julie in a press release.”This senseless tragedy is a shock for the Waffle House family,” the company’s statement said.
“Julie was a friend to many as well as a valued member of the Waffle House team. She will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with her family, friends, co-workers and customers.”
Mount has been charged with first degree murder and is being held at the Harrison County Jail on $2 million bond.
