Hands down for me, my Mother is the best at washing and folding laundry. She handles every load with care. I can sometimes come close but it’s never better. I can even watch her in action but I just can’t duplicate it. So what’s her secret? I know the answer but I am not willing to go the extra steps to get the extraordinary results. Load for load, she is much more consistent and her effort is far greater. Every load is so fresh and so clean. Bottom line, my heart is not in it and I can settle for what I do. My results are good and good is all I need. The good that I produce is definitely due to the things I learned from her. I am reminded of how much better her laundry is when I use a towel and I smell the freshness and feel the fluffiness when I go in for a deep whiff. For a moment I find myself being encouraged to be more consistent and do better but that feeling is temporary and I go back to my good enough way.
When I think about life, I can draw some similarities to doing laundry. My mother is careful to sort the laundry and group like colors. She selects the water temperature and products based on the colors and fabric. Some fabrics are delicate and require special handling. We need to sort through our issues in life and handle them with spiritual wisdom. We must recognize that the fabric of life is delicate and must be handled with prayer. Some things only come by prayer and fasting. I am learning through the word of God that we must be led by the Holy Spirit to handle the delicacy of life. Airing dirty laundry publicly can have negative outcomes because every issue is not meant to be public. However, a testimony inspired by the Holy Spirit will produce an overcomer and encourage the hearers.
We may hear people say that a certain person need to clean up their act. The garment of life becomes increasingly stained and wrinkled as we live in sin. Sometimes people may brush off the dirt and some may spot clean visible stains but there comes a time when a thorough wash is needed in life. Many cleansing solutions may be tried but stubborn stains may never be removed and too many attempts will ruin the fabric. Many garments are tossed out because the hope of salvaging it is not possible. Fortunately, a miracle cleansing solution does exist for our sinful lives that will remove any stain and leave the garment wrinkle free. It is the blood of Jesus that washes away all sin in our lives. When you are washed by the blood of Jesus, you will be so fresh and so clean.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
